* Gus Dur

Shockingly, I've just heard this from Mom. Well, first i noticed it from Zennia's status in fb.

"hikks....gus dur, indonesians vice presiden is dead...bye2.."

Then after quitting Facebook, Mom told Dad, " such a pity Gus Dur died..."

And she told me that Gus Dur was once the president of Indonesia whom she adores most since he was the one who abandoned the law of NO LEARNING MANDARIN. He thinks everyone SHOULD learn that language. ANd if it wasnt for him, i wouldnt even regonise a mandarin character and wouldnt survive in Macau ( they spoke Mandarin)

Well, mom loved Mandarin.

Gus Dur is dead. Abdurrahman Wahid aka Gus Dur has died.
Gusdur Meninggal headlines Indonesian press today as news that the former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid is dead at age 69.

Gusdur was at the Ciptomangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta. his nurse confirmed the news by stating simply “Gusdur has passed away”. cause of death was not released even though he suffered kidney problems in recent years.

In 1999 Gus Dur became the first Indonesian to win the Presidency beating out Megawati Sukarnoputri. in recent years Gus Dur suffered strokes and was nearly blind.

BBC Indonesia reports the news as follows:

“Gus Dur yang juga mantan Ketua Umum Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) ini dirawat di RSCM sejak Rabu petang. “Sebelum dirawat di RSCM Jakarta, Gus Dur sempat menjalani perawatan medis di RS Jombang Jawa Timur pekan lalu karena kelelahan setelah melakukan kunjungan ke beberapa pondok pesantren di Jawa Timur.

“…. “Gus Dur telah membawa NU ke cakrawala yang lebih luas, baik di tingkat pemikiran maupun pergaulan, memperkenalkan arti pluralisme,” kata Yahya Cholil Staquf, jurubicara sewaktu Gus Dur menjabat sebagai presiden, mengomentari peran Gus Dur di tubuh organisasi terbesar Islam di Indonesia itu.”

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Gus Dur will be greatly missed.

Yeah Gus Dur, i would miss you. EVen you are a complete stranger to me. Thanks anyway , for revealing the MUST of learning Chinese rule.
